ABOUT CREATIVE SCOTLAND
Creative Scotland is the public body that supports the arts, screen and creative industries across all parts of Scotland on behalf of everyone who lives, works or visits here.
Winner of the 2019 BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award, and 2016 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk award Brìghde Chaimbeul is one of Scotland’s most exciting young musicians. A native Gaelic speaker, her style is rooted in her indigenous language and culture, but draws inspiration from a variety of global piping traditions such as from Cape Breton, Eastern Europe and Ireland. She is an official showcasing artist at WOMEX 2021.
POSTCARDS FROM SCOTLAND
Twelve of Scotland’s best known folk groups and musicians have teamed up to present digital performances and send greetings from across the country to audiences at leading festivals around the world. During what would usually be the peak of the summer festival season, a host of Scottish artists - including leading names such as Blue Rose Code, Niteworks and Skerryvore, and recent award-winners Elephant Sessions, Zoë Bestel and Fara - have each recorded a five-minute ‘Postcard from Scotland’, which has been broadcast as a 60-minute special via a number of festivals’ online programmes.
GLOBAL MUSIC MATCH
Global Music Match - a world-first collaboration founded in 2020 by Showcase Scotland Expo, Sounds Australia and Canada's East Coast Music Association (ECMA) - has been honoured with the 2021 WOMEX Professional Excellence Award. Created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, through social media and peer-to-peer collaboration, Global Music Match has advanced opportunities and networks internationally, and encouraged cross border artist collaboration, by connecting hundreds of musicians from around the world, creating new audiences in a range of international markets whilst international travel has been curtailed, providing a groundwork for future international touring development.
