The Zawose Queens

Pendo Zawose is a traditional musician and one half of the Zawose Queens, who will perform at WOMEX 2025 in Tampere, Finland this October. Drawing on the Wagogo heritage of the hilly Dodoma region Tanzania and the legacy of her father, Dr Hukwe Zawose, she brings powerful vocals and indigenous instrumentation to the polyphonic singing of the Gogo (aka Wagogo) music alongside her cousin, Leah Zawose.
